Choosing rides for a family events in the greater Brisbane region starts with understanding your audience, space, and event goals. Family-friendly events work best when there is a mix of age-appropriate attractions, including rides for younger children, activities for older kids, and options adults can enjoy or supervise comfortably.

Key factors include:

  • Age range of attendees

  • Available space and surface type

  • Event duration and expected crowd size

  • Power access and safety requirements

It’s also important to select rides operated by licensed, insured providers who comply with Australian safety standards. A balanced combination of interactive activities and visual attractions helps keep queues moving and families engaged throughout the event.

Wet-weather planning is an important part of any outdoor event in the greater Brisbane and QLD. This includes selecting equipment that can operate safely in light rain, having clear postponement or cancellation policies, and allowing flexibility for rescheduling.

Best practice wet-weather planning includes:

  • Monitoring forecasts in the lead-up to the event

  • Having alternative dates or contingency plans

  • Ensuring all equipment meets safety guidelines for weather conditions

  • Clear communication with clients about postponements and deposits

In periods of unusually high rainfall, some events may be postponed to ensure safety. Professional operators will guide this process and help minimise disruption while protecting guests, staff, and equipment.

In Queensland, amusement rides and devices used at events must meet both state safety laws and any additional local council requirements to ensure they are safe for the public and compliant with regulations.

🛠️ State Safety Requirements

Under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld), amusement rides (defined as devices operated for hire or reward) are treated as regulated plant and must:

  • Undergo regular inspections, maintenance and major periodic checks in accordance with manufacturer instructions and regulatory requirements. WorkSafe Queensland

Queensland also introduced the Amusement Devices Code of Practice 2023, effective 1 Feb 2024, which provides practical guidance on managing the safety of rides from installation through operation and decommissioning. WorkSafe Queensland

🧠 Local Council Requirements

Many local councils require event approvals if amusement rides are part of an event on council land or roads. This can include:

  • Providing Certificates of Registrable Plant for each ride. Toowoomba Region

  • Submitting an event application or permit (e.g., Temporary Entertainment Event Approval) if rides, entertainment or large crowds are involved. events.redland.qld.gov.au

  • Meeting additional council conditions such as site plans, insurance details and traffic or safety management plans.

Requirements can vary slightly by council, so event organisers should confirm specific local rules with the relevant council before booking.
